Winning contracts
“Never underestimate the
effectiveness of a straight cash bribe.”
—Claud Cockburn
I have read that Manzoor Khan was a very smooth talker that charmed,
especially first generation West-Asian immigrants.
He also promised to provide full first-class services at a rock-bottom
price. He tried hard to be the low-priced bidder.
Bribes
However, he had a third way of winning contracts. An acquaintance of
mine, who owns a small property management company, received a phone
call one evening. It was from a director at one of the condos he had
under contract.
Manzoor Khan approached the director and offered him $10,000 in cash if
he could get the board to replace their present management company with
Channel.
After hearing the offer, the director swore at Manzoor Khan and he then
telephoned my acquaintance and told him about Khan's attempt to bribe him.
That bribe did not work but I wonder if any other attempts were made at
other condos. I further wonder how many directors took him up on the
offer.
