While the Ministry of Consumer Services' consultation process was chugging along, the condominium industry hired professional lobby firms to insure the provinces' politicians and bureaucrats look after their interests.

Education—a big business
On 02 Oct 2013, Kim Donaldson of The Capital Hill Group Inc, a Bay Street lobby firm filed as a paid lobbyist for ACMO.

ACMO intends to impress upon the Minister of Consumer Services and her Opposition critics that, as ACMO has been offering professional education and designations for 35 years, that it is the proper home for professional education in the condominium management field.

Kim Donaldson will be lobbying the Ministry of Consumer Services, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Premier and Cabinet Office

ACMO’s lobbyist will arrange one or more meetings and conduct informal communications, telephone calls, written communication whether in hard copy or electronic format.

So ACMO wants control of condo manager training. No surprises here.



Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI)

John Telch became the third lobbyist at the Bay Street firm Global Public Affairs Inc to register as a lobbyist on behalf of CCI. His initial filing date was on 13 September 2013.

His lobbying concerns are energy and environmental regulations regarding condominium corporations, property tax assessment, the building and fire codes; seeking amendments to the Condominium Act and he will be lobbying MPPs, the Ministry of Consumer Services, the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Finance,  Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of the Environment, the Office of the Premier and the Cabinet Office.

He will be arranging one or more meetings, grass-roots communications, informal communications, meetings, presentations, telephone calls and written communication whether in hard copy or electronic format.
